This week's Flash piece celebrates the New Year and involves my three favorite characters from the Blood Rose Series - Jade, Alex and Caleb. This scene kind of got away from me, and topped out at 247 words.
Here you go!
The winter air felt good on my face. I was standing on the roof of the office building that Caleb owned in New York. It was New Years Eve and I had always wanted to go to New York for New Years and see the ball drop at Times Square at least once. When I told the boys this, they obliged me because they could never say no. This all happened only a few days ago and now here I was, watching the revelers on the streets below.
Unfortunately, all of their happy energy and excitement couldn’t shake me from this overwhelming numbness. I felt Caleb approach behind me and put his hand on my shoulder. Smiling softly, I turned to see a worried look plague his features.
“I’m alright, I just needed some air.”
Caleb said nothing, just brought my hand to his lips, kissing it. I saw Alex standing by the door and motioned for him to come over. He had been distant since they were rescued and I had enough of it. As soon as he came close enough, I pulled him in by his coat and kissed him. Caleb was grinning when we pulled apart while Alex was stunned. Grabbing his hand and Caleb’s, we watched as the ball dropped on a new year and the fireworks display.
“Happy New Year…I love you both.”
Watching the smiles on the faces of father and son could have been the best New Year’s gift ever.
Happy New Years Everyone!!!!
Love it. That's just wonderful, sweet and moving. And I wish...and I do mean wish...I could write like that. Mine always gets away from me. (this weeks was nearly 1100 words - Bad Dakota) Anyway I look forward to reading what you post for next week's picture.
